Former England midfielder Jamie Redknapp has criticised Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan performance in Saturday’s 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The defending champions tried to find form again after losing four games in a row before the international break but ended up in a crushing defeat, with the Spurs scoring through James Maddison in the 13th and 20th minutes, followed by Pedro Porro in the 52nd minute and Brennan Johnson in stoppage time.
The long-term absence of Rodri, who is out with an injury, and Mateo Kovacic, who is also out, has forced Pep Guardiola to partner Rico Lewis in midfield with Ilkay Gundogan, with Redknapp criticising the 33-year-old’s poor form after returning to the club this summer.
“Man City are not doing any better at the moment,” Redknapp told talkSPORT. “They are small and everything in midfield is not in that balance.”
“Gundogan couldn’t move Promotion ufabet around the pitch today. He was so slow he couldn’t keep up with anyone and his concentration was always off.”
Manchester City are back at home in midweek in the UEFA Champions League, taking on Feyenoord, before hosting Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield next Sunday.
It would be a surprise if Manchester City decided not to flex their financial muscles and sort this obvious problem position out in January – with Rodri likely to miss the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.
If not, Guardiola can probably kiss his chances of winning a fifth consecutive Premier League title goodbye – with the Citizens already eight points behind Liverpool.
