Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is adamant the club are continuing their push to strengthen their squad until the deadline. With a view to swooping for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi despite having multiple bids rejected.
The Magpies have just had a firm £55m bid rejected for Guehi, with a further £5m option. Which would be their third or fourth offer and would have been dropped if it had been any other deal.
But because Howe sees the 24-year-old as a must-have. He will continue to press the accelerator.
“Everyone is looking for the best players and they are going to get them.” he said at the pre-Southampton press conference (August 17) สมัคร UFABET
“From our perspective, we have a good squad, when everyone is fit – a very good group. So signing players to make the overall picture better is difficult. But it is an achievement that we can achieve.”
“We don’t want to sign a deal and then after 3-4 months have passed. We have to sit back and think about whether this deal is pushing the team in any direction. It’s just adding in to bring in more players.”
“That kind of thing is something we should avoid at all costs, in my opinion.”
“We are looking for people who can make a difference, players who can lead the team, we are looking at that.”
Newcastle have already acquired free-agent Lloyd Kelly. Experienced goalkeeper John Ruddy and young forward William Osula as backups. And will likely be looking to add a player who can be used as a mainstay like Guehi.
